- One Day Workshop on Competitive Coding
A one-day Workshop on Competitive Coding was conducted for the 2nd, 3rd and final year students of CSE and ET branches. The workshop was addressed by Mr Nagaraju, Director – Learning and Development, Talentio, and Ex Database Engineer, Apple and Mr Sai Nived, Developer, Oracle India Pvt. Ltd.
The objective of the workshop was to familiarise students with competitive coding which will help them understand, address, and solve problems in an effective, fast, and less complex way. The students were informed about the benefits of competitive coding and how the skill will help them cruise fairly through different competitions and hackathons. They were intimated on various global coding platforms like CodeChef, HackerRank, Leetcode, Topcoder, Hackerearth, Codeforces, GeeksforGeeks, Project Euler, Atcoder etc. where they can take up and solve industry problems which will help them sharpen their skills and increase their global visibility. In addition, the students were also informed about the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), a multitier, team-based, programming competition operating under the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
Competitive programming is a sport where contestants solve algorithmic problems within a time limit using a programming language. It tests problem-solving skills, knowledge of algorithms, and ability to write efficient code. As Industry is demanding programmers to be problem solvers, so there was hands-on work for students on different concepts like Array, List, Stack, Queue in Data Structures making them convert logic into code using Python in the set time and execute the same using HackerRank online compiler. A total of 80 students participated in the workshop.
