Introduction
Childhood developmental disorders, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Dyslexia, are becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Children with ADHD often struggle with maintaining focus, following instructions, and regulating their behaviour, which can lead to difficulties in academic performance and social interactions. Dyslexia, on the other hand, is a learning disorder that primarily affects reading, writing, and spelling. Children with Dyslexia experience difficulty in recognizing words, decoding letter-sound relationships, and processing written language.
Problem Statement
- Childhood developmental disorders like ADHD, dyslexia, and loneliness are increasing globally.
- Many parents/teachers struggle to identify early symptoms, delaying/ impacting academics and social skills.
- Dyslexia makes reading, writing, and spelling difficult, leading to frustration
Aim of the Project
- Provide parents/teachers simple screening tool for ADHD and Dyslexia.
- Increase awareness, enable early detection, and encourage timely intervention, ultimately improving children’s emotional, social, and academic well-being.
Solution
Developed an app which:
- Functions as Digital Screening tool (as per criteria of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Edition V)
- Assesses the child for symptoms of ADHD and Dyslexia based on data provided by Parent/Teacher
- Suggests intervention of Healthcare professional based on assessment to ensure early detection, better support, and informed decision-making for parents

Conclusion
The development of a digital screening tool in the form of a mobile application provides a practical and accessible solution to this issue. By utilizing the diagnostic criteria from the DSM-5, the app enables parents and teachers to assess children for potential symptoms of ADHD and dyslexia, facilitating early identification. By leveraging technology to bridge the gap between early signs and professional diagnosis, this solution empowers parents and educators to make informed decisions, ensuring better support for children with ADHD and dyslexia. More importantly, this project.
Learning Outcome
Engaging in this project provided the first years with invaluable learning experiences across multiple domains, enhancing their technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The process of developing a digital screening tool for ADHD and dyslexia allowed them to gain firsthand experience in research i.e. in exploring psychological and medical literature, software development focussed on coding and UI/UX design.
